Isaac Reuben presents his first full release on Hotflush, with three tracks of rugged, stripped-back techno.
Following appearances on Rhythm Nation, Hotflush sub-label Who Whom, and on Scuba’s contribution to the fabric mix series, recent releases from Reuben have been self-released and exclusive to the Bandcamp platform. A prolific producer of tracks from deep soundscapes to warehouse sonic assaults, this EP concentrates on the more dancefloor-focused side of his range.
The title track, NRO, establishes a theme, with overdriven drums, extreme swells and a cavernous breakdown. Rouz is an instant roller, combining skittering hats with an infectious bassline, while Pastel Trax takes the vibe straight back to the 90s with cut up vocals and classic clap hits.
For some reason, Glowtalk reminds me of tough negotiations between the leaders of two superpowers. There's this sense of history being made, and peace being forged. The weight of millions of citizens depends on the highest ranking officials of those two nations conducting an orderly meeting and reaching a fair compromise. Christian Chiu
